And now, the groundbreaking Tranexamic Acid has come to rescue our skin from pigmentation, dullness and annoying dark spots.

Below, MAGISÉ R&D Team breaks down the highlights of Tranexamic Acid :

The Science Behind

Tranexamic acid is a synthetic amino acid derived from lysine. When used topically, tranexamic acid provides a powerful melanin synthesis inhibitor and anti-inflammatory action within skin. Histological studies showed that tranexamic acid is able to decrease the expression of tyrosinase, an essential enzyme that start out the melanin synthesis in skin. In addition, it blocks the transfer of melanin from melanolcyets to keratinocytes in the epidermis. At the same time, tranexamic acid also inhibits the inflammatory chain reaction induced by ultraviolet radiation (UVR) which results in skin discolouration and redness.

Recent comparitative and double blinded research has demonstrated the effectiveness of 5% topical tranexamic acid over topical hydroquinone in treating melasma. Studies showed that tranexamic acid is as effective as the cumulative effect of hydroquinone in treatment of melasma, while giving a higher safety profile on skin with less side effects.

How Often You Can Use It

Tranexamic acid can be applied twice a day, but you can start with one application per day to see how it reacts with your skin. Topical concentration betwen 2-5% generally produces results after 2 – 3 months of application.

Who Should Use It

Safe for all skin types. However, we don’t recommend for those who have oily or acne-prone skin to use tranexamic acid. Also, those with eczema or highly sensitive skin is recommended to do a test on the inside of the wrist before use.
