#FACT
Pigment Inhibitors are ingredients that can suppress or prevent melanin production within skin.
Popular ingredients in skincare that are known to be pigment inhibitors are:
• Azelaic Acid
• Retinoids (vitamin A)
• Niacinamide (vitamin B3)
• Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C)
• Glutathione
• Tranexamic Acid
• Kojic Acid
Hydroquinone is one of the pigment inhibitor that is known as the ‘gold standard’ for melasma and ephelides treatment. However, the use of Hydroquinone without doing a consultation with doctor could cause skin irritation. Therefore, patients must do a consultation with doctor so that the doctor can perform skin analysis and the right prescription dose of hydroquinone. In spite of that, there is another alternative called Cysteamine which has similar beneficial effect like hydroquinone. Patients are recommended to consult with doctors prior its use.

Does ultherapy hurts?
What is the difference between Ultherapy and Thermage FLX?
The differences are its technology and the main function of these two devices.
Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology or Microfocused Ultrasound with Visualization (MFU-V) which delivers selective heat energy to the skin layer, without affecting the skin surface. The main target of Ultherapy is collagen within the SMAS layer (superficial musculoaponeuortic system), area of facial muscles that are connected to the dermis (skin) layer. In the world of Face Lift surgery, SMAS is the main target that will be manipulated to achieve the “lift”. With Ultherapy, collagen will be heated up to 60-70 degrees Celsius. This is the optimal temperature in stimulating the production of new collagen in SMAS so that the face lift can be achieved. However, skin tightening can also be achieved due to the stimulation of new collagen.
On the other hand, Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency technology (RF) energy that is emitted to skin surface until the dermis layer to tighten facial skin, body areas and eyes. This is achieved due to the conversion of RF energy into heat energy, resulting in the formation of new collagen. Despite that these devices rely on heat energy, the depth that Thermage FLX can achieve is shallower than Ultherapy. Therefore, Thermage FLX works better for skin tightening to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin surface. The analogy, Thermage FLX is like an iron that smoothens out wrinkles on clothes.
